Coaches & Volunteers

Ahead of the Game helps coaches and volunteers develop the skills and knowledge they need to understand, recognise and support mental health and wellbeing in their players. As part of the program, coaches and volunteers will attend one interactive workshop. This session will help participants recognise and understand potential mental health challenges facing young players. They’ll also learn how to start conversations about mental health. By the end of the session, coaches and volunteers will have a deeper understanding of what support channels are available to them.

Your role in player mental health

Learn some real skills, like how you can support a player who might be facing mental health challenges.

How to tell if a player might be struggling

Make sure that you have your players’ back by understanding when they might be struggling, and how you could help them out.

    Having important conversations

Talking about mental health can be awkward. Learn how to start a conversation with players or parents.

How it works

Here's what the program involves:

1

Face to face

A one-hour workshop with the coaches and volunteers within the club. During the session participants will learn basic skills that will help them understand, recognise and support mental health and wellbeing in players.

2

follow up survey

We want to know what coaches and volunteers thought of the program, including how we could make it better.
